giving for good bismarck

In partnership with supporters across the Bismarck region, we are fueling leading-edge technology, enhancing care and accelerating new breakthroughs. Along with patient programs and facilities like our NICU, our Look Good Feel Better Program, and the Sanford Cancer Center in Bismarck, we’re also looking after our own with initiatives like the “Zen Den,” the Medical Center’s new wellness room.

Last year, we put $747,000 in philanthropic gifts to work across the Bismarck region. Read more in the 2023 annual report.

Local Priorities

Philanthropy is an integral part of the care provided at Sanford Health. The Sanford Health Foundation in the Bismarck region plays a crucial role in supporting specific programming for patients and staff, upgrading essential equipment, and funding special projects tailored to meet the needs of our communities.

Children

The Sanford Children’s Hospital Bismarck supports local infants, kids and teens everyday through Child Life services to help kids cope with the fear and uncertainties of hospitalization, financial assistance to help families with costs not covered by insurance, lifesaving pediatric equipment like ventilators and monitors, and so much more.

Pediatric Behavioral Health

We support children affected by mental illness by developing school-based curriculum and expanding behavioral health clinician support in schools, like this program at Simle Middle School, funding scholarships, internships and sponsorship opportunities in high-demand fields including social work and counseling, and so much more.

Cancer

This year, hundreds of local patients count on the Sanford Cancer Center in Bismarck. Through philanthropy, we provide travel assistance for qualifying patients who drive significant distances for care, offer complimentary wigs and head coverings, upgrade equipment to offer access to lifesaving MRIs and 3D mammograms, and so much more.

Leadership Connection

A monthly Bismarck region update from Todd Schaffer, MD, president & CEO of Sanford Bismarck.

January 2025

As a nonprofit health system, your support allows us to adapt and respond to the growing and changing health care needs of our region. Our new Southridge Clinic is just one example.

Transitioning our downtown walk-in clinic to our new location in the Southridge Centre not only offers patients better convenience, it also allows us to provide better whole-person care. Referrals to diabetic education, dietetics, social work, care management and behavioral health support all come from family medicine. At our Southridge location, these services will be embedded into our walk-in clinic, making it easier than ever for patients to get the care they need, when they need it.

Thank you for your continued belief in our mission and for your ongoing support — we couldn’t do it without you. Your generosity is making a difference for patients and families across our region. Here’s to more hope, more healing and more impact in 2025 and beyond.

With Gratitude,

Todd Schaffer, MD
