Sanford oncologist starts education fund for her team, for patients

Dr. Michele Lohr, a radiation oncologist at Sanford, is giving and inspiring the gift of education to keep her team strong and ensure the best care for patients.

Through her own generosity and initiative, Dr. Lohr recently created the Sioux Falls Radiation Oncology Staff Education Fund through the Sanford Health Foundation. The new fund will provide professional education and certification training opportunities for front-line radiation oncology staff.

“I am giving to the Foundation to offer our staff the education they need to stay adequately trained to perform at their highest level for our patients,” she said. “This fund’s purpose doubles to offer the best training, but also helps us be competitive in recruiting and retaining physicists, dosimetrists, therapists and more.”

Dr. Lohr has taken the first steps to create the fund and raise awareness of the need, but she hopes others will be inspired to join her.

“This is a commitment that this department needs,” said Dr. Lohr. “I hope that starting this fund will inspire others within Sanford and our community to support this cause as education is so important.”
