Shotwell Floral delivers kindness to Sanford Hospice House

Each week, Shotwell Floral makes a special delivery to Sanford Fargo Hospice House: a donation of flowers to brighten each patient room.

“It’s a simple thing,” says J.D. Shotwell, president of Shotwell Floral. “But we hope it makes a difference.”

Since the Hospice House opened nearly two years ago, the company has donated between 25 to 40 vases of flowers a week.

J.D. says hospice has touched the lives of his own family and friends. He understands how meaningful the small details and acts of kindness are for patients and their loved ones.

“It’s not about the name recognition for us,” he says. “It’s about those last moments and helping make a difficult time the best it can be.”

For J.D., who represents the fifth generation of Shotwells to live in Fargo and operate the family’s 130-year-old business, giving back locally is a priority.

“We’re very thankful to be a part of this community,” J.D. says. “We wouldn’t be here without our customers and community. It’s the least we can do to give back the best we can.”

Give for hospice. Give for good.

You can support patients and families at the Sanford Fargo Hospice House—North Dakota’s first in-hospital hospice facility—by making a gift to the Sanford Health Foundation’s Reimagine campaign.

Hospice care is one of the campaign’s four priority areas. Your gift could advance priorities such as:

  • Grief and support programs through spiritual care, Child Life and social services
  • The We Honor Veterans ceremony and program to honor hospice patients who are veterans
  • Meaningful amenities for patients and families
